Traveling? Even with the best intentions, it can be hard to workout while in transit. Follow these tips to set yourself up for success and make sure your workout actually happens.
No matter where you end up working out, proper attire is a necessity. The key is to pack athletic wear that is light weight, moisture wicking, and dries quickly. Stuffing a heavy cotton shirt that is drenched with sweat back into a suitcase is less than ideal. Instead, opt for something like a thin polypropylene knit.
Pack your suitcase strategically! Your gym clothes should be the very last thing you pack, so that they're right on top when you arrive at your destination. It sounds simple, but you'll be more likely to actually workout for two reasons. A) You'll be instantly reminded of your workout intentions the moment you unzip your suitcase, and B) you won't have to dig for your clothes when it's time to workout. Objects in motion stay in motion and clothes at the bottom of the suitcase often stay there, too.
Whether you're traveling with co-workers, friends, family, or a partner, propose the idea of working out on the trip before it even starts. This way, you ensure that they also bring their workout gear and the two of you can motivate each other. It takes some serious willpower to opt for a workout while everyone else is having fun. Make a pact with at least one other person to get your workout in before you start relaxing.
Trying to get the same exact workout you would get in at home isn't just unrealistic, its also boring. Lean into the discomfort of upsetting your routine and try something new! Whether popping into a new gym, taking a class, or trying an experience unique to the location-- welcome the opportunity to step outside of your comfort zone.
